Morning: Freezing Skies and Coastal Alerts

Bostonians are waking up to a transformed landscape this Tuesday morning as the city begins to dig out from the massive 'Blizzard of 2026.' After a Monday that saw nearly 17 inches of snow bury the streets, the morning brings a sharp, cold clarity. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6:00 AM, particularly for low-lying areas near the shorelines of Eastern Norfolk and Suffolk counties. Early commuters and shovelers should prepare for bone-chilling conditions, as temperatures are hovering around 22°F but feel closer to 10°F due to the biting northwest winds. The sky is expected to remain mostly clear and sunny throughout the morning hours, providing much-needed visibility for cleanup crews.

Afternoon: Sunny Spells Amidst the Cleanup

As we move into the afternoon, the sun will be the primary feature of the day, though it will offer little in the way of warmth. High temperatures are forecasted to peak at approximately 31°F. Despite the sunny spells, the city remains under a snow emergency. Mayor Michelle Wu has confirmed that Boston Public Schools are closed today to allow the fleet of plows to clear the remaining 15 to 17 inches of wet, heavy snow from main roadways and residential side streets. Residents should be aware that the citywide parking ban remains in effect until at least 6:00 PM tonight. If you are heading out to clear your sidewalk, keep an eye on the northwest winds, which are expected to persist at 7 to 10 mph with occasional gusts reaching up to 25 mph.

Evening: Increasing Clouds and Frigid Lows

The clear skies will begin to fade as we approach the evening hours. Cloud cover is expected to increase significantly after sunset, with temperatures plummeting back into the low teens. Tonight’s low is predicted to reach a frigid 13°F, with some suburban areas potentially seeing single digits. While the majority of the night will be dry, there is a 10% chance of light snow returning after 5:00 AM on Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service suggests that this minor system could lead into a more significant rain-snow mix later in the week, so residents are encouraged to finish their shoveling today while the sun is out.
