Boston Common Golf overwhelms The Bay Golf Club 9-1 in TGL match at SoFi Center

Boston opens Season 2 with two straight wins after finishing last in TGL’s inaugural season
Boston Common Golf delivered one of the most lopsided results of the young TGL season Monday night, defeating The Bay Golf Club 9-1 at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The victory moved Boston to 2-0 and left The Bay at 0-2.
Boston’s active lineup featured Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley and alternate Michael Thorbjornsen. The Bay played Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry and Min Woo Lee. Boston’s Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama did not compete, while The Bay’s Ludvig Åberg sat out.
How the match unfolded: early pressure, then a late Boston blitz
TGL matches are played over 15 holes, with the opening nine holes in “Triples” (three-on-three alternate shot) and the final six in “Singles” matchups. Each hole is worth one point, and ties award no points. Teams can also use “The Hammer” to increase the value of a hole by one point if accepted; if declined, the hole is conceded immediately.
Boston grabbed an early lead and steadily widened the gap. After The Bay briefly kept pace in the opening stretch, Boston took control in the middle holes and then closed with a decisive surge: Boston won the final 11 holes by an 8-0 margin, turning a competitive match into a rout.
- Boston led 5-1 after the Triples segment (through nine holes).
- In Singles, McIlroy, Bradley and Thorbjornsen combined to shut out The Bay.
- Boston finished with a 9-1 final score, its second consecutive win to start the season.
Key moments: long drives, missed chances, and Thorbjornsen’s touch on the greens
Several swings underscored Boston’s control and The Bay’s inability to turn opportunities into points.
- McIlroy opened Boston’s night with a 329-yard drive on the first hole, setting up an early advantage.
- Lowry had an early chance to change momentum with a putt of roughly 13 feet that lipped out, resulting in a tied hole rather than a lead change.
- Clark recorded a 372-yard drive on the sixth hole, the longest in TGL history, but The Bay did not convert the position into a point.
- Thorbjornsen made a 14-foot birdie putt on the seventh hole to extend Boston’s lead, and later navigated a key moment with The Hammer in play to prevent a multi-point swing.
Boston’s win placed it atop the early standings at 2-0, while The Bay’s 0-2 start increases the urgency in its remaining regular-season matches.
