A new operator is set for a prominent downtown seasonal beverage garden

Boston Harbor Distillery, a Dorchester-based spirits producer, is preparing to replace the longtime Trillium beer garden on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, marking a shift in what has become one of downtown Boston’s most recognizable warm-weather gathering spots. The new beverage garden is expected to begin operating in spring 2026 at the corner of High Street and Atlantic Avenue, near the Boston Harbor Hotel and International Place.

The transition follows the end of Trillium Brewing Company’s lease for the space, which it held for nearly a decade. Trillium’s Greenway outpost opened in 2017 and was widely described at the time as the city’s first public beer garden, helping establish the Greenway’s model for seasonal outdoor beverage destinations.

Selection followed a competitive bid process, conservancy says

The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy selected the new operator through a competitive request-for-proposals process after the conclusion of the 2025 lease period. Conservancy officials said the process was conducted as part of standard nonprofit practices and described the operator change as consistent with an ongoing effort to create opportunities for Boston-based businesses and new vendors within the park’s programming.

Conservancy leadership also credited Trillium with helping shape and popularize the Greenway’s beverage garden program, which draws a mix of commuters, downtown residents, and visitors during the warmer months.

What the new beverage garden plans to serve

Boston Harbor Distillery has said its Greenway concept will emphasize its portfolio of locally inspired spirits while expanding beyond cocktails alone. The operator plans to offer:

  • Craft spirits and cocktails
  • Mocktails
  • Beer and wine
  • Locally produced snacks

The conservancy noted that on-site vendor activity is subject to weather, completion of a signed agreement, and final city and state permitting.

Trillium’s next steps and the broader context

Trillium is continuing to operate other Massachusetts locations, including in Fort Point, Fenway, and Canton. In January 2026, the company also launched a winter beer garden inside Winthrop Center on Federal Street, expanding its seasonal approach beyond the traditional outdoor months.

For the Greenway, the change signals an evolution from a beer-forward concept toward a broader beverage program—while keeping the underlying format of an outdoor, seasonal gathering space in one of downtown’s busiest corridors.

The 2026 season will determine how visitors respond to a distillery-led operator in a location long associated with a brewery, and whether the updated menu mix reshapes the site’s identity while maintaining its role as a seasonal destination.
