Active Agenda for City Committees on Thursday

Following the recent inauguration of Mayor Michelle Wu for her second term, Boston’s municipal government continues its legislative and administrative work today, Thursday, January 22, 2026. While the primary City Council session is not held on Thursdays, several critical boards and commissions are scheduled to meet to address neighborhood development, historical preservation, and community funding. Residents should note that the previously scheduled meeting of the Board of Election Commissioners for 10:00 a.m. has been officially canceled.

Zoning and Community Preservation Sessions

The Zoning Advisory Board of Appeal (ZBA) is scheduled to hold a virtual hearing today starting at 5:00 p.m. A key item on the subcommittee's agenda includes an appeal for 115 Baldwin Street in Ward 2. The case, identified as BOA-1795810, involves a proposal for a second-floor interior renovation and the addition of a new roof structure with an increased slope to provide additional interior height. These hearings are vital for neighborhood planning, as they determine whether specific property projects can proceed with variances from existing city zoning codes.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) will gather for a virtual session. The CPC plays a pivotal role in the city's growth by managing the distribution of funds generated through the Community Preservation Act. These funds are typically earmarked for three main categories: affordable housing, historic preservation, and the development of open spaces or recreational facilities. Today's session is expected to review ongoing project proposals and community investments planned for the 2026 fiscal year.

Architectural Conservation and Federal Oversight

At 6:00 p.m., the Highland Park Architectural Conservation District Commission will host its monthly public hearing. This meeting focuses on maintaining the historical integrity of the Highland Park area by reviewing proposed physical changes to properties within the protected district. Public testimony is scheduled to begin at the start of the meeting, allowing residents to weigh in on how new developments might impact the neighborhood’s historic character.

In addition to local municipal actions, today marks the formal reporting of yesterday's high-profile field hearing held at the Jubilee Christian Church in Mattapan. Senator Edward J. Markey and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley convened the session to address the looming expiration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals. With the February 3 deadline approaching, the lawmakers used the hearing to gather testimony from the Boston community to inform emergency legislative efforts in Washington, D.C.

All city meetings scheduled for this evening will be held virtually. Members of the public can access the hearings via the official City of Boston website or through the designated Zoom teleconference links provided in the public notices.
