Boston University men’s hockey drops 4-1 decision at New Hampshire after early two-goal burst

Fast start put Terriers in chase mode
Boston University’s men’s hockey team fell, 4-1, at the University of New Hampshire on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at the Whittemore Center in Durham. The Wildcats scored twice in the opening 1:23, creating an early deficit that shaped the rest of the night.
BU responded later in the first period when freshman forward Ryder Ritchie finished at the left post at 12:55 for his sixth goal of the season. Senior Owen McLaughlin earned the primary assist to reach 100 career points, with freshman defenseman Charlie Trethewey also credited with an assist.
Second-period pressure without a tying goal
After the first intermission, the Terriers generated extended stretches of five-on-five pressure but did not convert. BU’s best sequence came midway through the second period, when sophomore forward Kamil Bednarik hit the crossbar and additional chances came from first-year defenseman Sascha Boumedienne and freshman forward Sacha Boisvert.
New Hampshire goaltender Kyle Chauvette turned aside several quality looks, including a second-period rush chance for sophomore Brandon Svoboda, who was sprung up ice by an outlet pass from classmate Cole Hutson.
Special teams swung the third period
With the game still within one goal entering the final period, New Hampshire expanded the margin on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third to make it 3-1. Boston University later had a power-play opportunity of its own but did not score. The Wildcats then sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 17:27 (2:33 remaining).
