City Hall Convenes for FY27 Budget Hearings and Major Development Votes

Boston City Council Examines FY27 Operating Budget
Today, Thursday, February 12, 2026, marks a pivotal day for Boston’s fiscal future as the City Council’s Committee on Ways and Means convenes a hearing on Docket #0201. Scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the Piemonte Room at City Hall, the session focuses on the preliminary review of the Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget. This hearing, sponsored by Councilors Benjamin J. Weber and John FitzGerald, represents one of the first formal opportunities for the council to deliberate on citywide spending priorities and requests for information regarding departmental allocations.
In addition to budget talks, the Committee on City Services is holding a separate hearing today regarding Docket #0112. These discussions are part of a broader push by the council to address infrastructure and service delivery efficiencies across the city's various neighborhoods early in the legislative session.
BPDA Board Holds Annual Meeting and Major Project Reviews
The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) Board of Directors is also scheduled to hold its annual meeting today at 3:30 p.m. in Room 900 of City Hall. This high-stakes meeting includes the annual election of officers and a series of votes on major urban development projects. Among the agenda items is the request for authorization to extend the final designation status for the redeveloper of The Blair Lot in Nubian Square, a project seen as central to the continued revitalization of Roxbury.
The board will also consider a significant amendment to the development plan for One Brigham Circle in Mission Hill. The proposal seeks to allow for clinic and accessory clinic uses within the existing planned development area. Public testimony for the BPDA session is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m., allowing residents to weigh in on these and other proposed land-use changes, including the five-year extension of the Tufts University Institutional Master Plan.
Police Accountability and State House Activity
Community oversight is also on the schedule today as the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency (OPAT) Civilian Review Board meets at 10:00 a.m. in Roxbury. The agenda includes policy subcommittee updates and an executive session to review specific complaint cases. Meanwhile, at the State House, both the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives are in session today at 11:00 a.m. The Senate is holding a full formal session with a calendar, while the House is conducting an informal session to advance local and non-controversial bills.
Cancellations and Reminders
Residents should note that the public hearing for the Fort Point Channel Landmark District Commission, originally scheduled for today, has been cancelled due to a lack of quorum. Furthermore, City Hall remains on a normal operating schedule, though the Aberdeen Architectural Conservation District meeting has also been removed from the calendar for this afternoon.
