City Hall Roundup: Critical Housing Hearings and Winter Weather Advisories for March 5

Official City Council and Commission Proceedings

The City of Boston has scheduled several key public meetings and hearings for Thursday, March 5, 2026. Residents are encouraged to participate in these civic processes to stay informed on local governance and policy changes.

  • Committee on Ways and Means: A policy briefing regarding Docket #0202 will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Piemonte Room on the 5th floor of Boston City Hall. This session is part of the ongoing review of the city's financial strategies and departmental allocations.
  • Mayor’s Office of Housing Public Hearing: The second public hearing concerning current housing initiatives is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. this evening. This meeting will be held virtually via Zoom, and public testimony is expected to begin at 6:30 p.m.
  • Residency Compliance Commission: The Boston Residency Compliance Commission will hold a virtual meeting starting at 9:00 a.m. to discuss oversight and compliance matters.
  • Meeting Cancellation: The Mission Hill Triangle Architectural Conservation District Commission meeting, originally scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, has been officially canceled as there are currently no pending cases for review.

Public Health and Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service and local health officials have issued a winter weather advisory for Suffolk County, effective from 5:00 p.m. today through noon on Friday, March 6. Following a recent period of heavy snow, a new weather system is expected to bring a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the Boston area.

Commuters are advised that road conditions may become slick and dangerous during the Thursday evening and Friday morning rush hours. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch are expected in the city, with higher totals possible north of Interstate 95. Residents are urged to use caution while walking or driving and to monitor for potential flooding as temperatures are projected to rise significantly following this event.

Transportation and Infrastructure Alerts

Ongoing construction and maintenance projects will impact travel throughout the city today. Please plan for additional travel time if using the following routes:

  • Orange Line Service: Shuttle buses continue to replace regular train service between Back Bay and Forest Hills. This diversion is in place through March 8 to facilitate critical signal upgrades.
  • Red Line Nightly Work: Starting at 8:00 p.m., riders on the Braintree Branch should expect delays of 10 to 15 minutes due to signal work near JFK/UMass.
  • Bowker Overpass Construction: Reconstruction work continues at the intersection of Boylston Street. I-90 eastbound and westbound remain reduced to three travel lanes in the project area.
