Public Service Announcement: Trash and Recycling Schedule Adjustments

The City of Boston has issued a notice that trash and recycling pickups are delayed in all neighborhoods throughout the week ending Friday, February 27, 2026. This delay is a result of recent storm conditions. Residents are advised to check their neighborhood-specific schedules for updated collection times. Additionally, while the recent snow emergency and parking ban ended earlier this week, overnight street cleaning remains canceled until further notice to facilitate ongoing clearing operations.

City Council and Committee Hearings

The Boston City Council and its various committees have scheduled the following virtual sessions for Friday, February 27:

  • Committee on Ways and Means Working Session (Docket #0202): A virtual working session will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to discuss the Boston Public Schools’ FY27 operating budget. This session follows previous referrals regarding school system funding.
  • Opportunity and Achievement Gaps Task Force: The School Committee’s task force will meet virtually from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The agenda includes a review of the 2026 Policy to Advance Academic Excellence and Eliminate Opportunity and Achievement Gaps, with remarks from Superintendent Mary Skipper.
  • General Public Notice: A general virtual conference of the City Council is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. via the Zoom platform.

Procurement and RFP Deadlines

Multiple City of Boston projects have critical submission deadlines today, Friday, February 27, 2026. All bids and proposals must be submitted through the City of Boston Supplier Portal:

  • Boston Public Schools (BPS) Solid Waste Services: Proposals for solid waste and recycling collection services for school operations are due by 12:00 p.m.
  • Madison Park Aviation Program and Enrollment Platform: RFPs for the Madison Park Aviation Program and the Citywide Enrollment Platform must be submitted before the 12:00 p.m. cutoff.
  • Boston Public Library (BPL) Shaw-Roxbury Branch: Bids for construction or project services at the Shaw-Roxbury Branch must be filed before 2:00 p.m.

Neighborhood Services and Public Programs

The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services is hosting Liaison Office Hours across several districts today. These hours provide residents with direct access to city representatives to discuss local concerns:

  • Office Hours: Liaison sessions are active for the North End, Waterfront, West End, South Boston, Hyde Park, Roslindale, Allston-Brighton, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, and West Roxbury.
  • Age Strong Cost-Savings Clinic: A dedicated clinic for seniors will be held in Roslindale to assist with cost-saving programs and benefit applications.

City Observance: Dominican Independence Day

The City of Boston officially recognizes February 27, 2026, as Dominican Independence Day. Residents are invited to acknowledge the contributions of the Dominican community to the cultural and economic fabric of the city.
