City Council Public Hearings

The Boston City Council has scheduled two significant hearings for Monday, March 16, 2026, to address pressing public health and infrastructure concerns. At 10:00 AM, the Committee on City Services will convene in the Iannella Chamber on the fifth floor of City Hall. The primary subject of this session, listed as Docket #0281, is an order for a hearing to discuss citywide pest control measures and recent reports regarding the discovery of leptospirosis in the city. Sponsored by Councilor Edward M. Flynn, this hearing aims to evaluate the effectiveness of current mitigation strategies and public health safety protocols. Members of the public are invited to provide testimony in person or virtually.

Following the morning session, a joint hearing of the Committee on Planning, Development, and Transportation and the Committee on Post-Audit will take place at 2:00 PM. This meeting will focus on Dockets #0199 and #0205, covering ongoing evaluations of city infrastructure and transportation planning. Both sessions will be broadcast live on local cable channels and streamed through the official City Council television portal.

Neighborhood Service Alert: Street Cleaning Resumes

Public Works officials have issued a critical notice for residents of the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill. While daytime neighborhood street cleaning typically resumes earlier in the month, the 2026 season for these specific districts was officially delayed until today, Monday, March 16. Neighborhood parking restrictions and enforcement for daytime sweeping are now in effect. Residents are urged to check posted signage carefully to avoid ticketing and towing. Unlike other neighborhoods where daytime cleaning resumes on April 1, these high-density areas require year-round and early-season maintenance to manage winter debris and maintain sanitary conditions.

Public Health and Community Board Notices

The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) continues its outreach regarding the "Live Long and Well" initiative. Following the recent release of the Black Life Expectancy Report, the Mayor’s Advisory Council is meeting to develop new initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities and addressing cancer burdens within the city. These efforts involve cross-sector collaboration between healthcare providers and community leaders to ensure equitable health outcomes for all residents.

Additionally, the Digital Accessibility and Equity Governance Board (DAEGB) Community Outreach Working Group will meet virtually today from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The group will discuss improvements to public engagement plans and the implementation of inclusive digital practices for traditionally underserved populations. Finally, the Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School will hold a virtual board meeting at 5:30 PM to discuss upcoming academic roadmaps and student support services.
