Wintry Weather Advisory and School Delays
The City of Boston is advising residents of hazardous travel conditions today, Friday, March 6, 2026, due to a mix of wintry precipitation including snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Public and private school districts across the area have implemented delayed openings to allow road crews additional time to clear primary and secondary routes. Commuters are encouraged to use caution, particularly on untreated surfaces and sidewalks. The Public Works Department continues to monitor roadway conditions to ensure the safety of students and staff during the morning commute.
Public Works: Street Sweeping and Maintenance Update
While the City’s daytime neighborhood street cleaning program typically resumes in early March, officials have announced a delay for the 2026 season. Daytime street sweeping in the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill neighborhoods is now scheduled to begin no earlier than March 16, 2026. Residents are reminded that nighttime street cleaning on major thoroughfares remains in effect year-round. All participants in the No-Tow email reminder service should check for updates if weather conditions necessitate further cancellations of mechanical sweeping operations.
Public Notice: Affordable Housing Development
The Mayor’s Office of Housing has issued a notice of intent to request the release of federal HOME Program funds for the construction of 1198 Centre Street in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale area. This project involves the development of a 78-unit affordable senior housing community. Written comments may be submitted to the Mayor's Office of Housing for inclusion in the official record.
