Public Works and Street Maintenance Notice

The City of Boston Public Works Department has issued a schedule update regarding the 2026 Daytime Street Cleaning Program. Residents in the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill should be advised that the resumption of daytime street cleaning has been officially delayed until Monday, March 16, 2026. While the program typically begins earlier in the month for these neighborhoods, no parking enforcement related to daytime sweeping will occur prior to this new start date. For all other city neighborhoods, the daytime cleaning schedule remains set to resume on April 1. Residents are encouraged to check posted signage as nighttime sweeping on main thoroughfares remains in effect year-round.

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Traffic and Parking

In preparation for the annual South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Road Race scheduled for Sunday, March 15, the Boston Transportation Department will begin instituting temporary parking restrictions effective tonight, Saturday, March 14. Major corridors including West Broadway, Dorchester Street, and portions of East Broadway will be designated as tow-away zones to facilitate event setup and public safety. Additionally, the Canterbury Street Bridge in Roslindale remains closed to all vehicular traffic following a recent safety inspection; motorists should continue to utilize the established detours via Hyde Park Avenue and Cummins Highway.

Public Health Advisory: Flu Activity

The Boston Public Health Commission is alerting residents to "very high" levels of influenza activity across the Commonwealth as of mid-March. Following reports of pediatric complications and rising hospitalization rates, health officials strongly recommend that all eligible residents who have not yet received their annual flu vaccination do so immediately. The commission emphasizes that preventive measures, including frequent handwashing and staying home when symptomatic, are critical as the city navigates this late-season surge in respiratory illness.

Public Safety and Civil Service Examinations

The Massachusetts Human Resources Division reminds registered candidates that the written examination period for Municipal Police Officer and MBTA Transit Police Officer positions concludes today, Saturday, March 14. Testing centers will close promptly at their scheduled times. Furthermore, the Boston City Council recently held hearings regarding the regulation of Kratom and the FY27 operating budget; residents interested in providing testimony for the record on these dockets may still submit written comments to the City Clerk’s office through the upcoming week.

Commemorative Events

As part of the ongoing 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, the Mayor’s Office of Tourism, Sports & Entertainment is highlighting upcoming Evacuation Day ceremonies. While the primary rolling rallies and historical reenactments of the Knox Trail occur on March 17, residents should expect increased pedestrian activity and minor intermittent traffic holds near Thomas Park and the Dorchester Heights Monument throughout the weekend as historical site preparations continue.
