Street Cleaning Schedule and Seasonal Resumption

The City of Boston Public Works Department has issued an official notice regarding the resumption of the Daytime Neighborhood Street Cleaning program for the spring season. While the citywide program typically runs from April 1 through November 30, specific high-density neighborhoods—including the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill—are scheduled to begin their spring cleaning cycles effective Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Residents should be aware that although the official start date for these neighborhoods is March 1, the city has announced a brief administrative delay for the 2026 season. Mechanical sweeping in the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill is now tentatively scheduled to begin no earlier than March 16, 2026. Despite this delay, the City reminds vehicle owners to pay close attention to all posted signage, as nighttime street cleaning and arterial sweeping remain in effect year-round. Once the daytime program resumes in full, strict parking enforcement and towing will be reinstated to ensure sweepers can effectively clear winter debris and road salt from the public ways.

Upcoming City Council Hearings and Sessions

The Boston City Council has released its legislative agenda for the first week of March 2026. Following the weekend update, the Council will convene several key committee sessions starting Monday, March 2. Residents and stakeholders are invited to follow the proceedings for the following dockets:

  • Ways and Means Working Session: A working session regarding Docket #0202 is scheduled for Monday, March 2. This session will focus on fiscal policy and preliminary budget reviews as the city prepares for the upcoming fiscal year 2026 budget cycle.
  • Education Committee Hearing: A public hearing on Docket #0200 is set for Monday, March 2. Please note that the previously scheduled hearing for Docket #0113 has been officially canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
  • Human Services and City Services: On Tuesday, March 3, the Committee on Human Services will hold a hearing on Docket #0285 at 10:00 a.m. to discuss community programming. This will be followed by a City Services hearing on Dockets #0270 and #0291-0292 in the afternoon.

Decennial Redistricting and Full Council Meeting

In accordance with the 2026 calendar, the Boston City Council Committee on Redistricting has officially launched the decennial process of reviewing district boundaries. This critical process occurs every ten years to ensure equitable representation across the city’s evolving neighborhoods based on updated census data. Public participation is encouraged throughout the spring as the committee reviews population shifts.

The next full meeting of the Boston City Council is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Christopher A. Iannella Chamber. The meeting will be presided over by Councilor Mejia and is open to the public for in-person attendance or via the city's official cable and livestreaming channels.
