City Council Public Hearings
The Boston City Council has scheduled two significant hearings for Monday, March 9, 2026, at City Hall. Residents are encouraged to participate in person or via the city’s digital broadcast channels.
- Committee on Human Services (Docket #0283): At 10:00 a.m. in the Iannella Chamber, the council will hold a hearing to discuss citywide efforts to prevent elder scamming and financial exploitation. Sponsored by Councilors Murphy and Flynn, this session will explore resources for protecting seniors from fraud.
- Committee on Public Health, Homelessness, and Recovery (Docket #0175): Following the morning session, a hearing on public health initiatives will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Iannella Chamber. This meeting will address ongoing recovery services and support for the city's vulnerable populations.
Environmental and Sustainability Meetings
The BERDO (Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance) Review Board will convene for a public meeting on Monday, March 9, at 4:30 p.m. This meeting will be conducted virtually. The board is responsible for overseeing emissions standards for large buildings as part of Boston’s climate action goals. Public Service Deadlines
Monday, March 9, at 5:00 p.m. is the final deadline for residents to sign up for testimony for the Joint Committee on Public Service hearing scheduled for later this week. This hearing, chaired by Senate Chair Michael Brady, will cover various public service legislative matters. Registration is required for both in-person and remote testimony.
Traffic and Infrastructure Alerts
The Boston Transportation Department and Public Works have issued the following updates for March 9:
- Canterbury Street Bridge: The bridge remains closed to all vehicular traffic following a safety inspection. Pedestrian access is maintained, but drivers should continue to use the established detour via Hyde Park Avenue and Cummins Highway.
- Street Cleaning: Daytime street cleaning remains suspended for most neighborhoods through the month of March. However, daytime enforcement continues in the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill. Nighttime street cleaning remains in effect on all major thoroughfares citywide.
Health and Safety Advisory
Following one of the coldest winters on record, the Boston Public Health Commission reminds residents that cold weather resources and emergency shelters remain active. Outreach teams are conducting wellness checks throughout the city. Residents who see individuals in need of shelter or medical assistance during low temperatures are urged to call 911 for immediate support.
