Department of Public Works: Street Cleaning Adjustments
Following the recent severe winter weather, the City of Boston has issued an updated schedule for the start of the 2026 daytime street sweeping season. While daytime cleaning in the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill typically resumes on March 1, the program has been officially delayed.
- Delayed Start: In the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill neighborhoods, daytime street sweeping and associated parking enforcement have been postponed until at least Monday, March 16, 2026.
- Ongoing Services: The Nighttime Street Cleaning Program remains active year-round on main roads and commercial arterials. Residents are reminded to continue obeying all posted signage for nighttime cleaning to avoid ticketing or towing.
Health Advisory: Seasonal Respiratory Illness
The Boston Public Health Commission and local healthcare partners have issued an advisory regarding high levels of respiratory virus activity across the city. Due to a surge in influenza A cases, several clinical facilities, including Fenway Health, have reinstated universal masking policies in patient care areas effective immediately. Masks are required in waiting rooms, exam rooms, and clinical hallways to protect vulnerable populations and healthcare staff.
Monthly Proclamations
The City Council has officially proclaimed March 2026 as Irish-American Heritage Month. This proclamation honors the cultural and historical contributions of the Irish community to the City of Boston. Throughout the month, the city will also recognize National Nutrition Month and Sleep Awareness Month to promote public wellness.
