Official Commemoration and Traffic Advisory

The City of Boston has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for Saturday, March 7, 2026, in observance of the 250th Anniversary of the Knox Trail. The Mayor’s Office of Tourism, Sports & Entertainment, in coordination with the Boston Transportation Department, is hosting a reenactment of Henry Knox’s historic 1776 transport of 59 cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston. A commemorative rolling rally and parade are scheduled to commence at 2 p.m., beginning at the Fenway High School parking lot.

Due to the significance of the event and the planned route, temporary parking restrictions will be strictly enforced throughout the day on the following streets:

  • Alleghany Street: Both sides, from the driveway of Fenway High School to Parker Street.
  • Roxbury Street: South side (UU Urban Ministry side), from Highland Street heading easterly to Malcolm X Boulevard.

Vehicles found in these restricted zones are subject to ticketing and towing at the owner's expense. The parade route will proceed from Alleghany Street to Terrace Street, Cedar Street, Centre Street, and Roxbury Street, concluding at 10 Putnam Street. Motorists should anticipate rolling street closures along this corridor and are strongly encouraged to utilize public transit or Bluebikes to navigate the area.

Winter Weather and Public Health Advisory

As Boston navigates its third-coldest winter since the start of the millennium, the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) remains under an active cold weather advisory for Saturday. Residents are urged to take rigorous precautions against extreme freezing temperatures. The city’s cold weather response teams are conducting wellness checks and coordinating with medical personnel to assist vulnerable populations. Public safety officials recommend calling 911 immediately if you see someone in need of assistance.

For those requiring relief from the cold, official warming centers at the following Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) locations are open to the public:

  • BCYF Mason Pool (Roxbury)
  • BCYF Shelburne (Roxbury)
  • BCYF Vine Street (Roxbury)

Health officials advise residents to wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing and ensure that all skin is covered when outdoors to prevent hypothermia and frostbite.

Public Works and Street Cleaning Updates

The City of Boston Public Works Department has announced that the 2026 Daytime Neighborhood Street Cleaning program has been modified due to seasonal conditions. While daytime cleaning usually resumes in early March for historical districts, the start date for the North End, South End, and Beacon Hill has been delayed until at least Monday, March 16, 2026. In all other neighborhoods, the daytime program remains suspended until April 1. Nighttime street cleaning on major thoroughfares continues to operate on its year-round schedule, and residents should continue to follow all posted signage.

Upcoming Governance and Public Hearings

Looking ahead to the upcoming week, the Boston City Council will continue its intensive review of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. Formal public hearings are scheduled to resume on Monday, March 9, at 10 a.m. in the Iannella Chamber. These sessions will focus on departmental budget priorities, including Human Services and Public Health. The public is invited to provide testimony either in person at City Hall or through the city’s virtual participation platform.
