Public Notice: Service Schedule Updates and Major Institutional Agreements

City and Wentworth Announce Historic Partnership Agreement
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, the City of Boston and the Wentworth Institute of Technology finalized a landmark five-year Pilot (Payment-in-Lieu-of-Taxes) agreement and a significant amendment to the institution's ten-year Master Plan. This agreement marks the first formal written partnership between the City and Wentworth in over two decades. The deal includes a commitment of more than $5.6 million in cash and direct community benefits over the next five years, aimed at supporting local infrastructure and educational pathways.
As part of the master plan amendment, Wentworth will accelerate the construction of a new 972-bed residence hall on Pike Street. This facility is designed to house the entire freshman class on campus, which city officials expect will alleviate housing pressure on the surrounding Mission Hill neighborhood. The plan also includes public realm improvements, such as two new courtyards and enhanced pedestrian access through the People’s Pike connection to Ruggles Street.
Holiday Service Impact: President’s Day Observance
Residents are advised that City Hall and all municipal administrative offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of President’s Day. Public services will be impacted as follows:
- Trash and Recycling: Collection will not occur on Monday. All residential pickups for the upcoming week will be delayed by one day. Residents who normally have Monday pickup should set their items out on Tuesday.
- Parking: Parking meters will be free with no time limit on the holiday. However, other parking regulations, including fire hydrant clearances and disabled ramp access, remain strictly enforced.
- Public Libraries: All Boston Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, along with BCYF community centers.
Traffic Advisory: City Hall Plaza Event Preparation
The Boston Transportation Department has issued a traffic advisory effective today, February 14, to facilitate preparations for the upcoming Red Bull Snowboarding Event scheduled for the following weekend. Starting today, temporary parking restrictions are being posted along Cambridge Street in front of Boston City Hall. Residents and visitors should pay close attention to the newly installed signage to avoid towing. These restrictions are necessary to allow for the safe installation of equipment and temporary structures on City Hall Plaza.
Public Health Advisory: Seasonal Wellness
The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) continues to monitor a significant seasonal increase in respiratory illnesses, including the flu. Health officials recommend that all residents stay up to date with vaccinations. In light of recent cold advisories, the City also reminds residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure that home heating systems are functioning safely. The City’s 311 line remains available 24/7 for residents to report non-emergency issues or to request assistance with city services.
