Boston’s February calendar includes free public art, music, fitness and community programming

February can test the patience of even seasoned New Englanders, but Boston’s winter calendar offers a range of no-admission activities across downtown, neighborhood parks and cultural spaces. Below is a fact-checked guide to free (and, in a few cases, nearly free) options scheduled for February 2026, with details on timing, locations and any expected add-on costs such as skate rentals or food purchases.

Downtown’s free outdoor art show runs through late March

A major anchor this winter is WINTERACTIVE, a free, walkable outdoor art exhibition presented across 18 sites in downtown Boston. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Jan. 14 through March 29, 2026 and is designed to be visited at any time, with installations available around the clock. In February, the program also lists guided tours on Feb. 3, 5 and 6, and select dates offering free cocoa.

Free midday organ music, plus another concert series in the Fenway area

For a short cultural break during the workday, Trinity Church in Copley Square maintains a weekly Friday midday organ recital slot at 12:15 p.m. (typically running about 30 minutes). Another free lunchtime organ performance is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at the Christian Science Plaza’s Mother Church Extension on Massachusetts Avenue.

Community events and weekly routines that don’t require tickets

  • Jamaica Pond parkrun: a free, timed 5K held every Saturday with a 9 a.m. start and a pre-run briefing at 8:45 a.m., welcoming walkers, joggers and runners.

  • Moakley Park Winter Warmer: a free community afternoon scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026 (2–4 p.m.), with warm drinks, snacks and activities.

Free entry, with optional spending on-site

Some February outings are free to attend but may still involve optional purchases. VERSUS, an arcade bar in Downtown Crossing, advertises “Free Play Friday,” offering free entry for arrivals between 5 and 6 p.m., with arcade play included during that windowed arrival promotion. Food and drinks are sold on-site.

Before heading out, residents should confirm age policies, capacity limits and weather-related changes, especially for outdoor programming.

Important caveat: ‘Learn to curl’ is not free this February

Several winter sports offerings can appear in roundups of free activities, but not all are actually no-cost. North End Curling Club’s public “Learn to Curl” sessions listed for February 2026 carry a posted price of $60, with scheduled dates including Feb. 9, Feb. 14 and Feb. 23 at the Steriti Memorial Rink.
