Route 1A closure disrupts North Shore commute

A crash involving two tractor-trailers shut down a stretch of Route 1A in Revere early Wednesday, March 4, 2026, forcing a lengthy road closure and pushing morning traffic onto local detours. The collision happened on North Shore Road, which carries Route 1A through the area and serves as a major connection between Revere and Lynn.

Police warned shortly before 6 a.m. that the roadway would remain blocked for much of the day as crews worked the scene and cleared the damaged vehicles.

Detours and traffic impacts

With Route 1A closed, southbound traffic heading from Lynn toward Revere was diverted off the main roadway. Authorities directed drivers onto Revere Boulevard/Revere Beach Boulevard, and motorists were advised to anticipate delays and use alternate routes where possible.

Photos released from the scene showed at least two tractor-trailers disabled on the roadway, including one positioned across the travel lanes, underscoring why the shutdown was expected to extend beyond the initial emergency response.

  • Location: North Shore Road (Route 1A), Revere
  • Date: Wednesday, March 4, 2026
  • Vehicles: Two tractor-trailers confirmed at the scene
  • Traffic pattern: Southbound diversion from Lynn to local routes

Injuries and investigation

Officials did not immediately release details on how the crash occurred. Early in the response, there was no confirmed public accounting of injuries. Later Wednesday, police reported that no serious injuries had been identified.

As with major commercial-vehicle crashes that block a primary corridor, the response typically includes securing the scene, documenting vehicle positions and roadway conditions, and coordinating heavy-duty towing and roadway cleanup. Investigators had not publicly provided a cause, contributing factors, or whether citations would be issued.

The closure was expected to last “most of the day,” police said in an early-morning traffic alert.

Separate water main break reported nearby

Roughly an hour after the crash alert, police also reported a water main break in the same general area on North Shore Road near Butler Circle. Authorities did not state whether the break was connected to the collision.

Drivers traveling in and around Revere were urged to plan for continuing congestion while crews addressed both the crash impacts and the water infrastructure issue.
